The Harvey Nichols Grüner Veltliner is produced by the Hirsch family from the village of Kammern in the heart of Austriaâs exceptional Kamptal region. Hirsch means deer in English, hence the antlers on our label. Used for driving ahead and clearing obstacles, antlers are a fitting tribute to Johannes and his family â not just because of their surname, but because they are determined pioneers. The Hirsch family championed the steep slopes that others didnât want to work and now command some of the regionâs most revered sites. In the midst of the red wine boom, they chose to concentrate solely on the Grüner Veltliner and Riesling for which the region has since become world-renowned. And they were early adopters of organic and biodynamic farming methods.Grapes were handpicked from the best-terraced sites where the large difference between day and night temperatures promotes slow ripening and results in a huge depth of flavour, while maintaining the refreshing acidity. Fermented and matured purely in stainless steel to produce a wine of elegance that is full of regional character.Dry, zesty and generously aromatic, with a crisp spiced finish and remarkable complexity. This exceptionally versatile wine is bursting with citrus, green apple, freshly cut flowers, mango and pear, and could partner practically anything from an Austrian schnitzel to Vietnamese salad.
